• Possible x84 and SynchroNet MRChat in the works

From Smooth@10:101/1 to All on Sunday, April 14, 2019 09:51:25
I just saw a comment posted by Haliphax (sysop of Oddnetwork BBS) in
Facebook about his interest to build an MRChat for x84 boards and or Synchronet.

    Ohh, that's very cool.
I should get to work and put that connector out.

I'm getting some heat on DOVE-Net for not wanting to gate it to IRC. Seems
hard to understand there is no point to having MRC if it's just another IRC client more or less.

IRC isn't getting anywhere really and is just a place for folks to idle all day. I would like MRC to become something different and avoid at all cost to import other platforms issues and problems if at all possible.

I'd also like to avoid giving an IRC operator power to kick/ban users at
will. The way I envision it in MRC will make much more sense very shortly.

Anyway, I wonder if any developer always implement all the suggestions they receive...

This is very funny when you think about it...

    Cheers!

Haliphax will totally appreciate it as x84 is written entirely in Python. :D

I'm getting some heat on DOVE-Net for not wanting to gate it to IRC.
Seems hard to understand there is no point to having MRC if it's just another IRC client more or less.

IRC has become a ghost town. I've actually been enjoying the scheduled meetups. It works great for me.

IRC isn't getting anywhere really and is just a place for folks to idle all day. I would like MRC to become something different and avoid at all cost to import other platforms issues and problems if at all possible.

There are some users that are idling in MRChat now and treating it as IRC.
I'm adding a notice on Ink Two that if you idle for more than an hour on my board that they'll be booted. :P

Anyway, I wonder if any developer always implement all the suggestions they receive...

I think many will limit the feature set so there a distinction between IRC
and MRChat. When MRChat looks more and more like IRC, there will be MORE requests for additional IRC-like features. That's the main reason I felt a code freeze should be executed. :P It's stable and feature rich at this
    point.

If MRC gets much more popular, then you'll have to start coding some addons
for it. like games and such, and maybe some bots. Bots are certainly a viable possiblity. Like maybe a bot to advertise the BBS of the day, etc.

The whole server code has been rewritten from scratch and have hooks for external services and many other features to come. I just don't want to make this happen all too fast and keep adding them from time to time to keep interest.

    Cheers!

I wouldn't want to see it while in "chat". For me. I'd rather see it maybe upon exiting the chat. A rotation of ads that randomly display upon exit.

Yeah that's a good idea too. I personally think that the chat part of the
chat should be just for chatting, no automatons or the such... bbs of the day upon leaving perhaps like Smooth says is a good idea... I still like perhaps using the scroller for it if that was deemed something useful to people but equally happy to have bbs of the day standalone or upon exit.

client for Synchronet, but the weekly chats are a good excuse for me

On the Synchronet client side of things, you may expect to see a client

Well, you are always welcome to call another board. I think we s all do that for the meetup. Could be a great opportunity to visi boards.

Most definitely. I love dialing out to other sysop's BBSes. :D Need go outside of our homes and visit others in the bbs community heh.

Many times I get jealous when I call out to other BBSes. Everybody else has better setups than mine.

I know exactly what you mean, I feel the exact same way.

I have been enjoying calling boards using Retro BBS Term programs. From Term 4.8 and JR-Comm for the Amiga and CCGMS for the Commodore 64. With today's emulators, its not hard at all. Makes me feel like I am back in the early 90's.

I would love a quote from someone who can create some custome screens for RoF. Would like them made in the classic topaz font for the Amiga. I have
ideas in my head that just need to be put out into a nice ANSI screens.

Not quite as retro, but I use Telix in DOSBOX. Mostly to hear that
connect tone that I'd wait for when gang-dialing my entire dialing
directory looking for an open board.

Telix was one of my first favorite telnet programs when I first started
BBSing. It wasn't the fanciest of the bunch but it had a very intuitive interface. It was easy to navigate throughout the program. :D
