He teamed up with one of the most famous Islay Single Malts distilleries toproduce a custom release of Lagavulin. The Lugavulin Distillery was founded byJohn Johnston and Archibald Campbell in 1816, but records show that illegaldistilling had been taking place on the same site as far
back as 1742. It sitson a natural harbor on the south shore of Islay
about half-way betweenLaphroaig and Ardbeg. It's core offering --- the sixteen-year-old --- won anunprecedented four consecutive double-gold medals followed by three SingleGolds at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
Thanks for the details... I still write Whiskey reviews for every bottle

I'm trying to wean myself off of big, peaty Islays. Anyone got a
recommendation for a good lowland or speyside scotch?

Post them here! "The good life" seems like an appropriately-named echo
for scotch reviews.
My current bottles are an unopened Ardbeg (birthday present) and an
Irish whisky called "Writer's Tears". It's barrel aged, has a nice,
Want a sherry bomb? Check out Glendronach 18 "Allardice" - your tastebuds will thank me while your bank account scorns me.
I've never had that. I've seen it but was waiting to hear someone talk about it first. What's the flavor profile on it?
My wife got me chillin' some Cabernet Sauvignon for tonite's festivities.

I think we should do a drunken BBS review on ArakNet TV. :D We'll pick
an alcohol of choice and give a review of our drink and the BBS. An
idea to do for the NEW year. 2021. :D

Prepare to be smacked in the mouth with sweet sherry flavors. It's a very mild, drinkable dram, doesn't need water, and sadly goes down very easy considering the steep price.
My gf likes to tell people that Glendronach 18 is a dangerous gateway druginto whiskey for non-whiskey drinkers, and I think a decent number
of peoplein our lives have thus far proven this correct.
I have an unlabeled bottle marked "2016 CAB" in grease pencil, a gift
from thegeneral contractor responsible for our office build-out. He's
been making winefor 10 years and passed a bottle on to me for the
Dude, this might be a cool idea for a zoom call - it would allow for as many ofUS to join as we wanted. I'm in, if you ever like this idea... I think it couldbe cool.
Hell, if the callers were multiple sysOps we could call around to all THEIRBBSes - who are on the call. It would just take some thought about how to sharescreens and who would be sharing.
Hmmmm... alright, I'll have to post some of my pasts or at least cross-postanything in the New Year that I review on my board. :P Neat to know that othersare interested in my crazy desire for great whiskeys. :P
Noted. I had a bottle of Macallan "20s" about 10 years back, it
was aged in Sherry casks for a couple of years. Beautiful scotch, wonderful finish.
Sounds delish. Might go well with some of my cigars that has similar
sweet notes.
haha. Many of my friends and family members don't appreciate whiskeys either. They drink rums, tequilas, and vodkas and usually as mixers.
hehe. Then I've got the other spectrum of people that are the wine
snobs. :P
I was mostly into my scotch whiskeys for the last 8-10 years but just recently gotten into bourbon whiskeys for the past 2 years. My father-in-law doesn't like the peaty islay scotches and bourbon whiskeys flows well more with his palette. I've been following a few whiskey groups on Facebook. A lot of them crack me up because most of the time they're drunk on there. haha

I don't really like rye or scotch... I like bourbon whiskeys. Mainly, anythingwith spicy flavors or something fruity/vanilla'y to push me over the edge theother way.
Broken Top Mountain Whiskey from Sisters, Oregon... its a straight
bourbon whiskey.
At any rate... Merry Christmas & Cheers.
I've been drinking mainly Four Roses Small Batch Select and Elijah Craig BarrelProof. They're the main two that's regularly stocked.
If you like peaty whisky's, then you will love Octomore. Made by Bruichladdich, it's the peatiest whisky I think you can buy, and it's bloody good. Expensive. But if you're a Peaty Whisky fan, you'll
probably see why it's my favourite!

Whats peaty whiskey?
Whats peaty whiskey?
Peaty (or "peated") Scotch from Islay can be characterized by having a strong smoky flavor, somewhat medicinal like iodine or even
formaldehyde. It sounds gross if you haven't had it but if you're into
bbq and smoked meats and spices, you'll probably wind up enjoying it.
There's a whisky region in Scotland called Islay. I may be butchering this history but essentially, when toasting the barley, it was traditional in Islay to use dried moss from peat bogs to toast the barley. That, coupled with the freshwater native to that island, creates a very unique whisky flavor.

The first time I ever had an Islay (it was Lagavulin), I was walking briskly ¨on a beach in Mexico and took a big mouthful all at once from
the bottle, and ¨almost puked. And then I coughed. And I almost puked some more. And ¨everyone made fun of me. But that's okay because

Great explanation - I drink some whiskeys, and while I'm not a super fan of 'peaty' tastes, I think lasts nights glass had some peaty tones in there. :P

I love me some peaty Scotch. My go to drinks at home are Ardbeg
Uigeadail and Laphroig 10 Year. My father-in-law and I would always
take turns buying Lagavulin 16 Year. :D
My wife and I have been watching "Men in Kilts", a show where the two stars of "Outlander" tour Scotland, each episode focused on a different area of scottish culture or area. They genuinely have fun together, usually at each other's expense.
What I really like are the solid stem whisky glasses they have in the show. They're not terribly expensive.
Yes - I have a bottle, or two, in the dry bar as I type. :P
