I am not a seasoned IPA beer man but I do have my favorites. I
originally got turned on to IPA beers when an ol' manager of mine
brought Racer 5 (Bear Republic) for all of us to drink after a long day
of programming. Since then I've been trying out different ones from Bev Mo when I get the chance.

Some of my favorites are Lagunitas IPA, Sculpin (Ballast Point), and of course Racer 5(Bear Republic). I would love to know some others that are worth checking out.

Find your local breweries and just dive in. There are often a lot of good
stuff local you're unlikely to find in stores. Also a lot of local breweries don't have the Distro reach the big guys have. Many of my favorites from the Chicago area are unlikely to be found in Cali, like Revolution and Buckledown (which happens to be like 5 blocks away from home). There is no shortage of tiny local breweries that can use the support. Try them out, and if it's
good, vote with your dollars, if not move on and try something else.

My wife and I bonded early on with the adventure of searching out new beer. Even planning our Honeymoon around visiting breweries around the Front Range
in the Denver area. And ended up hitting 15 in 4 days sampling some awesome amazing stuff and soaking up the local culture. It's great that we can walk into a 7-11 nowadays and grab a 6 pack of good IPA, but exploring is part of the beer journey.

My wife and I took a trip to visit her father and his new family in
Spokane, WA and discovered a bar called the Viking Tavern with (if
memory serves) 30 craft beers from around the US and an equal number
of local Washington beers. It made the trip bearable.

    ... What does this mean?

That's a lot of places here. Our local haunt just down the street has 35 tap handles and tons more in containers. We aren't hurting for good beer. But
it's nice to try things you'll never get that are small and local while traveling. That's a big part of the adventure for us. Also being able to
visit and tour the breweries you already know and admire is pretty cool.
