to the Apple IIe that
I still write my journal in every morning at 7:42am... to the Apple G4
... as I look around my living room, I see many retros; whether its the Commodore corner, w/ a C=64 that I should have sent off to aNACHRONiST weeks ago - to a C=128 that is my battle station - to the Apple IIe that
I still write my journal in every morning at 7:42am... to the Apple G4 'basketball' machine that was so sexy some 20 years ago - to the Dolch
PAC 486 that runs so many OSes, on different CF Cards.... I love it.
Even the Atari 400 - with its cartridges still serving up BASIC and some assembly carts that I don't know how to use - the FujiNet 2024 talk was just a couple weeks ago - but it still doesn't know how to talk to the internet.... one day. :P
I'm st0ked about the zer0 retro echo - let's g0000!

I mentioned this to you in email, but I just welcomed my 5th Amiga into
my home on Sunday (although 3 of them are 500s, so that's not quite as crazy as it sounds.) It's an Amiga 1000 which I've never owned or even touched before, but I've always thought they were quite aesthetically
nice looking machines with that kind of compact "pizza box" style case.
Thats super rad - I still don't have an Amiga in my stable... I'd love
to find a 1200, or even a 600 - one day I'm sure I'll get my chance. :P
Thing is - I never used Amiga in my young years, so its all learning
when I do dive in. I've had a lot of experience w/ emulation... but I gotta get over to the dark side.

I'm sure - if you're not a member of any local retro groups in Portland, I'd guess that would be your best opportunity for deals. The ones I'm in up here often trade, sell, and post other local findings for way below eBay prices.

Theres a [new] retro computing meetup happening in PDX. Adrian Black, the youtuber, attends; seems like a good group of retro enthusiasts.
Those types of groups, VCF and other enthusiast gatherings offer the best prices - there are some stupid people trying to cash in on the retro craze... but so long as you steer away from those purchases its still a good environment to find deals.
Just gotta find the people that love this hardware like we do - I give
out deals and will never pay premiums. Together we can make sure
hardware doesn't die, and is traded fairly. :P

Hit me up on Discord, I have a spare A1200 that I was thinking of
selling. It's /not/ a stock machine, though, so if you want to start
from a blank canvas, this one wouldn't be fore you :)
I also never used one as a kid but they sure are fun machines!
Nice! It's funny, when me and my friend Spec (who ran/runs?
Theoretically BBS) talk about anything retro computing related, he
always brings up Adrian's Digital Basement. I'm pretty sure it's the
only retro channel he watches, but he watches every episode like
multiple times. :P
Oh man - I will, esc! Right on... I always bif my retros up with the CF Card, accelerators and sound cards that a IIe was never supposed to have
- I get it... will msg.
Yea - one reason I never got into Amiga RETRO hardware is because of how many models they had; with one Raspberry Pi I get to play with them
ALL...
I'm up yer alley next year as Atari is next on my list. I bought an ST
and am looking to thru FujiNet at is and do some upgrading too.
Have you heard of the RetroPi project? It's really insane. You use the
Dude! I have a IIgs with an accelerator, sound card, storage on CF, ethernet...it's a fully featured machine! And all I've done with it so
far is play Oregon Trail hahaha
Have you heard of the RetroPi project? It's really insane. You use the
OG Amiga hardware, custom chips, etc., but the CPU duties are relegated
to an emulated 68k core running at high speeds on a Pi CPU
daughterboard. It's nuts. Super cool.
I'm up yer alley next year as Atari is next on my list. I bought an SNice! The Atari ST is a fun little machine. I have an STFM that I'm
trying to convince JP to snag from me, because I also have an STe that I plan to use for my daily Atari fix :P
Actually, in my IIe I run a transwarp card - it does bump the Mhz up to
8, but its a vintage card!!! :P Still, you have to switch it off when
you wanna play IIe games - just too much juice! TOO MUCH FIRE BABY. :P
However - for my aforementioned daily AppleWriter journaling - its gangster. BOOM - SSD speed, brotha!
Several Amiga-Pi things out there... I have mostly huddled around the PiMiga / Chris Edwards of Atlanta Data Image BBS - still runs on a 1200; just have to wait for the external HDD to spin up. adibbs.sytes.net:6800
I have an ST that I haven't dug into yet... a 400 w/o any cartridges, and needing some power supply love - but its on the horizon. :P
I love to dive into these different platforms, learn the thing and document it for future me... then, 6 months later... on to the next one.
One of my fav Seattle creators is Cathode Ray Dude - his content isn't
for everyone, and its very deep-dive slow stuff... but man, he's come
into his 'creator self' and there are some of the best monologues buried in his videos - love it.
He's been going on and on and on about 'little guys' recently - all
sorts of 1 use-case semi-vintage PCs; digital signage, video record/playback and various corporate models... you gotta be really
nerdy, but its great stuff. https://shorturl.at/5dTCh
I also like the Connection Museum folks - they're museum has all the ma bell telephony stuff and they are restoring, utilizing and keeping the switches, terminals and relays alive!!

The Pacific Northwest has no shortage of YT r0ckstars. :P https://www.youtube.com/@techheart6090
