I was a metalhead when I first became a user on Distortion about 15 years ago. I've changed over the years!

I found out that instrumental jazz is awesome music for hacking away at computer stuff (bbs, or whatever) but a couple years ago I did the unthinkable: I started liking some country music! I hated country throughout all my teen years and I never thought that I'd ever let that cow manure shit play on my stereo, but now I'm a full-fledged shit kicking cowboy! (Not really, but I've learned to appreciate country music quite a bit!)

And then if that isn't crazy enough, I've now migrated on to Christian Contemporary! Something that I double-extra thought I'd never want to listen to! But I've come to a point in life where I'm rejecting material things in a very extreme way, and Christian Contemporary music is synonymous with that train of thought, so now I've really found what I've been looking for.

If anyone has the stomach for trying Christian Contemporary, I recommend these 2 songs:

Phillips, Craigs & Dean - Revelation song
    https://youtu.be/_5_dzjSIySw

Jeremy Camp - Christ in me
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-1Wtrnt-rc

That first song is really heavy - it picks up. And it starts sounding like Type O Negative. The 2nd one I linked is less heavy, but it's really deep. These are my top 2 songs and I can't sleep unless I hear them before bed.

Now next week I'll be like "Yo, I'm into rap now." LOL

Well now THAT is a pretty interesting journey! Enjoy the self discovery.

I still can't get into country with a few exceptions. Shooter's stuff is cool, and I dig that "Tennessee Whiskey" group whose name I can't remember. Christian music though...def gonna have to miss me with that one haha.

I pretty much listen to the same type of stuff I listened to back in the heyday of the BBS - the 90s. I didn't realize at the time what an artistic renaissance we were in, but man oh man were we spoiled.

My country beginnings were from the album "Common Thread: The Songs of
The Eagles". It's a compilation of Eagles covers by Travis Tritt, Clint
Black, Alan Jackson, Suzy Boguss, Trisha Yearwood, Tanya Tucker and
others. The yacht-rock sensibilities of 1970s Eagles blended with
country music emotion and styles is interesting.

I watched Yellowstone, and pulled up Ryan Bingham on Spotify. That led
me to Chris Stapleton, I really dig them both. And, Shooter. And Zakk
Wylde when he was in his "Pride and Glory" phase.

I do not, but I definitely understand a shift to lighter, more relaxing stuff that's easier to listen to casually. I still dig all of the crazier shit I listened to as a teenager, but as an old man, I've expanded my horizons quite a bit and, and often into the more chill direction.

You're the sane one. Nobody likes country because most of it really does suck.

I'm a politically-charged guy. I think I began to like country because I thought all the country artists were MAGA like me. A lot of them are (seem to be) but there's a few on my shitlist like Garth Brooks and Reba.

So far, none of the Christian artists have pushed Biden on me. Hopefully they never do, but it could happen! :)

I pretty much listen to the same type of stuff I listened to back in the heyday of the BBS - the 90s. I didn't realize at the time what an

I do too, I still like Morbid Angel, but I've turned my back on Ozzy and Sabbath because of Ozzy and Geezer's pro-Biden comments. (I know, I'm nuts.)

I know, I should stop letting politics ruin music for me, but I'm a little insane and I just can't help it. I don't treat regular people that way, just celebrities because I hate the way they abuse their popularity.

When I'm working, I can't listen to anything with lyrics. I have undiagnosed ADHD and lyrics distract me WAY too much. So, I like progressive/modal jazz as background music while working. It chills me out, at least I think it does, and sometimes when I need a break, listening to it makes my mind wander to some cool places.

If you're interested, check out some John Coltrane records. It'll put you in a good spot.

When I ran, I had a couple of metal play lists - hair metal from the
'90s made for great running music. Queensryche's Operation:Mindcrime
made for a great 50 minute run. Another mix was Cinderella, The Cult,
RATT (groan, I know) and Ozzy, from the Ultimate Sin and Bark at the

This is (I believe, as I'm still at entry level here, lol) labeled "Deathcore". Apparantly, it's supposed to be a completely different genre. lol

That probably made his throat hurt!

I doubt it. He has a bunch of Youtube videos (vocal playthroughs, even) showing how he does it. In those videos, it doesn't even seem like he tries very hard. He can do it at a normal volume, without looking like he's screaming or pushing as hard as he can. It's wierd.

The old death metal genre usually have their eyes rolled back in their heads with veins popping out, giving it their all to get that kind of sound out. :D

approximately the same tempo. The Ultimate Sin was a great Ozzy album, and

Loved Jake E. Lee's work on that, loved him in Badlands, the new-ish stuff hasn't sunk in yet. It's not them, it's me. I've changed. :)

is kinda hilarious how he varies the range like that. I've never heard anything like that from other death metal bands.

This is (I believe, as I'm still at entry level here, lol) labeled "Deathcore". Apparantly, it's supposed to be a completely different
    genre. lol

I almost called it "grindcore" because the instruments sound a bit like Napalm Death. We can't be mis-gendering this stuff!

That probably made his throat hurt!

I've listened to interviews with Chris Barnes (Six Feet Under) and David Vincent (Morbid Angel) and they have really rough sounding voices when they talk. Maybe they can learn something from the guy from Lorna Shore.

Yea, Jake E Lee is underrated, and so is Badlands. Their songs never get played on the shitty radio stations that we have in my area.

Well, that could be from a lot of cigarette smoking and whisky drinking, too, though. Those dudes have been doing this shit basically nonstop since back in the 80s. :)

The guy from Lorna Shore doesn't even really have a deep voice (granted he's probably at LEAST half the age of the two you mentioned above, lol). That's why it was so surprising he had that much range. There are others, too. It's like a whole new rabbit hole to get lost in for a bit!

I'm a politically-charged guy. I think I began to like country because I thought all the country artists were MAGA like me. A lot of them are
(seem to be) but there's a few on my shitlist like Garth Brooks and Reba. So far, none of the Christian artists have pushed Biden on me. Hopefully they never do, but it could happen! :)

It's fun to be intoxicated at a time and place where nobody expects it from you. Being high at work is fun. One time I ate a bunch of edibles (like 400MG) and I went to the airport for a flight. It didn't kick in until the flight already took off so I got to experience being baked on a flight. It made it a little more fun.

Skipped the part about being high at work, because to me, that's terrifying.

But I do take gummies before flights. I did this the first time by accident..I had some gummies in my backpack that I accidentally took on board the plane. Thinking it would be a bad thing to get caught smuggling cannabis into a country from an international flight, I decided to get rid of the gummies. My method: eat them. Every roller coaster is nothing comparing to that experience. When I left the plane, first thing I did at the airport was getting a double of scotch at the bar nearest to my gate... and then I needed to enter another plane as this was just a connection flight and turbulences were because of a heavy storm above London.

Luckily the rest of the flight was super pleasant.

Yeaaah, I might have the same reaction... :|

I haven't had many notably rough flights, though the first time I'd flown as an adult (which is to say, for many, many years) I flew for work and, oddly, me and my coworker were two of the only people in the entire section of a 787. It was so empty, that the stewardess for that section told us to feel free to spread out and claim entire rows for ourselves if we wanted. That *NEVER* happens these days - I don't fly as much as many of you might, but I've not had a flight since then that wasn't full or very close to it. Anyway, we had several patchy spots where the plane felt like it was free falling for multiple seconds, during which shit went flying, the overhead compartments flew open, etc. I remember looking at my coworker, who was already so nervous about flying that he ordered a double vodka as soon as he could, as he instantly pressed the call button so he could order a second one. I did the same. :P

You know, that was also my first flight after all of the post 9/11 TSA changes. In retrospect it's surprising I didn't hang it up after that trip. :)

I'm just like "Ohhh lord, take the wheel!" :D There's nothing I can do about it once we're in the air, so I might as well not dwell on it. Sometimes I even find the whole thing kind of amusing. I don't know what's wrong me. :P

I tried not to... I was slowly to accept my fate and I was so paralyzed
by fear that I could not feel a lady next to me pinned her nails onto my arm holding it with her hand.

Well thanks, you've now added more to my fear of flying. :D

wasn't full or very close to it. Anyway, we had several patchy spots
where the plane felt like it was free falling for multiple seconds,
during which shit went flying, the overhead compartments flew open, etc.
I remember looking at my coworker, who was already so nervous about
flying that he ordered a double vodka as soon as he could, as he
instantly pressed the call button so he could order a second one. I did th

    I could totally understand.

I'm always worried people next to me think I'm crazy. :)

The last flight I was talking to myself through the flight because the take off was so bad. I think she may of thought I was looney.
