• Weird login names...

So, someone registered to my BBS with a login name like this: 1.16.1
That's exactly his login name! How should you treat this kind of login names?

    1. Immediate reject it and delete the account?
    2. Send an email/message and ask about it?
    3. Don't give a shit and let it go...

    :)

I'd pick 3. A lot of old Amiga BBSes (and even daydream on linux) have a history of some pretty nonstandard usernames. Even some have high ascii characters :P

Maybe keep an eye on the account's activity and make sure he/she is not up to no good.

I'd also go with #3. If I see a name like that, I'd assume it is a bot/script that somehow accidentally made it as far as creating a new account (which is pretty unlikely, and has never happened since adding a bot check to Distortion, honestly.) but if they appeared to be a legit user (i.e. sent me an even half-ass new user feedback message) I'd leave them be. If they didn't send me new user feedback, I'd instantly nuke them, but I do that to everyone already anyway. ;)

I allow 'weird' usernames if I email the user and its a real person... unless its 'admin' 'root' 'sysop2' or something like that - these ppl wanna use 1.16.1 for some weird reason; if they're a human on the other end, I don't see why I can't let them be who they want...

Just request that they join the local msg bases, or whatever you push @ AD. :P
